The Pirate: Plague of the Dead Tips
The Pirate: Plague of the Dead – Beginner’s Guide: Stop Sucking, Start Plundering
Plague of the Dead is a chaotic, fun sandbox pirate game, but it’s easy to get sunk within your first hour if you’re not paying attention. I’ve spent hours crashing into rocks, getting outgunned, and forgetting how wind works—so you don’t have to. This ain’t no fancy tutorial, just the real-deal tips you need to survive the Caribbean and build your fleet.
First off, combat’s where most newbies die, so let’s fix that. Your cannons aren’t just for show—tap the cannon icon on the bottom left to get your crew ready, then aim with that telegraph thing (pro tip: it’s not a crosshair, it’s your ammo type). Don’t fire unless the enemy’s fully in that telegraph—wasting ammo’s a death sentence.
And for the love of rum, use the right ammo. Here’s the quick breakdown you need:
Double Cannonballs: For when you wanna end a fight fast (use these first).
Chain Balls: Slow enemy ships down—perfect for chasing or escaping.
Grapeshot: Kills enemy crew (only use if their hull’s damaged, though).
Bombs: Save these for forts—they’re useless against ships.
Next, sailing. Yeah, the wind’s a pain, but that red cone? That’s a headwind—don’t fight it. Skirt around it, especially in combat. And turning? Slow down first! It’s like driving a truck—you can’t whip around at full speed without crashing into a rock. Trust me, I’ve done it.
Your fleet ain’t gonna fight for you, either. Tap that golden ship icon on the right to give orders—tell ’em to attack, follow, or stay. If you don’t, they’ll just float there like lost sailors while you get ganged up on. Also, assign captains smart: Blackbeard’s for combat, John Rackham’s for looting—don’t put ’em on the wrong ships.
Money’s another big one. Skip the boring grind—hit up taverns, buy a round of beer, and listen to the gossip. Locals will tell you which ports have cheap goods to buy and where to sell ’em for a profit. Quests work too, but taverns are faster for quick cash.
Last pro move: After a fight, hit a smuggler port to rename your ship. Get that pirate status cleared, or every ship in the sea will shoot you on sight. And if you’re losing a battle? Pause, fast travel out, and come back with repairs and ammo. No shame in running—dead pirates don’t plunder.
That’s it—no fluff, just the basics. You’ll still crash a few times, but you’ll stop getting sunk in 10 minutes. Now go hoist the sails and make the Caribbean fear your name.
