War Robots Beginner Guide: Stop Getting Wrecked & Start Winning

If you’re fresh to War Robots and keep going down in flames in matches, take a breath—you’re not alone. This fast-paced mech PvP brawler can feel overwhelming at first, especially on mobile, but stick to these core rules, and you’ll stop feeding enemies and start winning fast.

First, resist the urge to rush weapon upgrades. This is the #1 mistake newbies make. Boosting your guns too early dumps you into lobbies with mid/high-level players who melt you. Plus, repairing a trashed mech eats silver fast—save those resources for progression, not instant power.

Next, prioritize hangar slots over skins or fancy mechs. You start with one slot; unlock the second with silver (super easy). The rest cost gold, and you should save every coin to unlock all 5 total. More slots mean more mechs to swap into mid-battle, which is how you stay competitive and outplay opponents[6].

Let’s get into controls—they’re simple once you map them. Left joystick moves; right buttons fire left/right weapons. Hold the shoot button for full auto, and slide to aim. Pro move: always equip both weapons. Reload takes ~9 seconds, and you don’t want to be defenseless while reloading. Pro tip: Enable manual target lock in settings—this lets you switch focus fast with a tap, critical for surviving fights.

Now, the basics of winning. Matches are 6v6, 10 minutes max. You win two ways: destroy all enemies (only do this if you’re far stronger) or drain their base’s health (blue bar = yours, red = theirs). If tied, the team with more base health takes it—classic objective play, not just deathmatch.
