Subnautica Tips
Subnautica Beginner Guide: Survive the Alien Ocean in 5 Easy Steps
Subnautica’s alien ocean is equal parts awesome and scary—especially if you’re new! No hand-holding, just you, the deep blue, and tons of weird (and dangerous) creatures. But don’t stress—this quick guide breaks down the basics to get you up and running fast.
First off, survive day one. Fix your lifepod ASAP—grab titanium from rocks and copper from coral to patch broken systems. Then craft a Scanner, Knife, and Fins with your Fabricator. Stick to Safe Shallows: grab bladderfish for water (squeeze ’em!) and peepers for food (cook ’em on the pod’s heater). Don’t swim too far—no Seaglide = quick oxygen trouble.
Next, unlock key tools. The Scanner is your BFF—scan every fragment you find (look for wrecks!) to get blueprints. Prioritize the Seaglide (speeds up swimming) and Mobile Vehicle Bay (lets you build a Seamoth later). The Habitat Builder is non-negotiable too—you’ll need a base soon.
Build a simple base. Pick a spot near resources (Grassy Plateaus or Kelp Forest work great). Start with a Multipurpose Room, slap on Solar Panels for power, and add a Fabricator + Lockers. Lockers are a game-changer—label ’em for metals, food, and gear (inventory space is tiny!). Your base is where you recharge batteries, store loot, and avoid late-night leviathan scares.
Explore smart, not brave. Use beacons to mark wrecks or resource spots—you’ll get lost otherwise. Avoid Reaper Leviathans like the plague (they’re the big, growly ones!) until you’re ready. Need to check out the Aurora? Craft a Radiation Suit first—radiation will kill you fast. Stick to Jellyshroom Caves or Sparse Reef for mid-game loot—they’re safer and have good resources.
Handle threats like a pro. Most creatures won’t bother you if you leave ’em alone. If something chases you, use a Stasis Rifle to freeze it (buy time to escape) or flares to distract. The Seamoth’s Perimeter Defense works on small predators too. Pro tip: don’t fight Leviathans—swim away or hide in your base/pod.
That’s the gist! Focus on these steps, and you’ll go from panicking newbie to ocean explorer in no time. The alien world’s full of secrets—take it slow, scan everything, and don’t forget to top up your oxygen. Happy diving!
