Editor's Review
Stop guessing what plane is flying over your house. Flightradar24 tells you instantly—point your phone at the sky and it shows the route, aircraft type, even a photo. I’ve tracked flights in real-time, watched 3D replays, and checked delays at airports worldwide. The free version is solid, but gold adds weather layers and oceanic tracks. Perfect for aviation geeks, frequent flyers, or anyone who’s ever looked up and wondered.

How it works
Most aircraft today are equipped with ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flightradar24 has a rapidly growing network of over 50,000 ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions, with the help of multilateration, we’re able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders. Coverage in North America is also supplemented by real-time radar data. Coverage is variable and subject to change at any time.
freeradar24 Tips
If you’ve ever wanted real-time, air-traffic-control level flight data right on your phone, Flightradar24 Flight Tracker is hands down the best option out there. Developed by Flightradar24 AB, this ultra-popular aviation app turns global flight tracking into a seamless mobile experience. It’s beloved by aviation geeks, frequent travelers, and plane spotters alike, packing live plane radar, detailed flight stats, and historical flight logs. While it looks straightforward on the surface, new users often waste time fumbling with filters or missing its most useful hidden features. These beginner tips and unfiltered pros and cons will get you using the app like a pro in minutes.
This app is pretty intuitive overall, but small bad habits can hold back your experience. Stick to these 3 core beginner tricks to unlock its full potential fast.
1. Use custom filters to cut map clutter. The default map shows every active flight globally, which feels overwhelming for new users. Narrow down results by airline, aircraft type, altitude, and flight status. Whether you’re spotting local traffic or tracking a specific trip, filters eliminate messy overlays and let you focus on exactly what you need.
2. Tap individual aircraft for full data breakdown. A lot of new users only glance at plane icons on the map. Holding or tapping any flight pulls up critical details: real-time speed, altitude, heading, departure/arrival terminals, and even the plane’s registration number. It’s way more detailed than basic airline tracker apps, perfect for verifying delays or tracking loved ones’ trips.
3. Bookmark frequent flights and airports. Don’t manually search for regular routes every single time. The bookmark feature saves airports, specific flight numbers, and even favorite airlines. This simple trick cuts your search time drastically and lets you quickly check live statuses with one tap.
