Backtrackit Tips

Backtrackit: Music Learning & Creation App Review & Beginner’s Guide

For anyone looking to level up their music skills—whether you’re a total newbie just picking up a guitar or a seasoned musician hunting for creative tools—Backtrackit is a game-changer. It’s not just another music app; it’s a one-stop shop for learning, practicing, and creating, with tools that feel built for real people, not just tech experts.

What makes it stand out is how it balances simplicity and depth. You won’t get overwhelmed by complicated menus, but there’s enough functionality to keep even experienced players engaged. From splitting vocals and instruments to practicing scales or building custom drum tracks, it covers every part of the music journey without feeling bloated.

How to Use Backtrackit (No Tech Skills Required)

Don’t stress if you’re not tech-savvy—getting started is a breeze, and here’s how to jump in:

Open the app, and you’ll land on a main screen with all its core features—no confusing setup. Spend 30 seconds scrolling to get a feel for where everything is; it’s pretty intuitive.

Start with the Track Splitter if you’re into creating or remixing. Upload any song, and it’ll automatically separate vocals from instruments—perfect for making karaoke tracks or messing around with covers. You can tweak volumes, too, so you can isolate drums, bass, or piano to practice along with.

Dive into the practice tools next. If you sing, use the singing practice feature to nail notes in different octaves; if you play guitar or piano, check out the 32 scales and 30 chords it displays—super helpful for learning new riffs. The hearing training is a nice touch too, letting you guess notes after hearing a reference.

When you’re ready to create, head to the original backing tracks library. These high-quality tracks cover different genres, so you can practice solos or build your own songs without starting from scratch. You can even adjust the key and BPM to match your style.

The Best Features (And a Few Headaches)

Let’s start with the good stuff. The Track Splitter is hands down the star—it works smoothly, and being able to control individual instrument volumes is a game-changer for practice. The live note mode is also great for guitarists, showing chord progressions right on your fretboard (it even supports Fret Zealot and Visual Note).

Another win? It’s for everyone. Newbies get clear learning paths and simple practice tools, while pros can use the advanced equalizer (save up to 5 presets!) and loop feature to fine-tune their creations. The interactive drums are a fun bonus too, letting you build drum tracks in the style of famous drummers.

That said, it’s not perfect. Some users have complained about recent updates breaking the automatic key/BPM analyzer—a bummer because that feature was super useful for quick practice sessions. There’s also some frustration with premium, where some users felt nickel-and-dimed for track splits after paying for the paid version.

But even with those minor flaws, Backtrackit delivers where it counts. It’s a reliable tool that makes music learning fun, not a chore, and its creation features are flexible enough to spark creativity. Whether you’re practicing for your next gig or just messing around for fun, it’s worth having on your phone.
