instagram Tips

Let me keep it real—Instagram (made by Instagram itself, part of Meta now) is the top Android social media app for sharing photos, videos, and connecting with people worldwide. With over 2 billion monthly active users, it’s super popular, but newbies can get confused by all the features. I’ve been using it for years, so here’s a no-BS newbie guide and honest take—no fluff, just what you need to get started fast.

First off, what’s this app actually do? It’s a social platform focused on visual content—you can post photos/videos (Posts), short 24-hour clips (Stories), 60-second videos (Reels), send private messages (DMs), and follow people you like. Core stuff includes filters, photo/video editing tools, hashtags (to reach more people), and a profile page to show your content. It’s free to use, but has ads and in-app purchases for premium features (like boosting posts).

Newbie Tips—I Messed Up So You Don’t Have To:

1. Perfect your profile first. Don’t skip your profile pic (use a clear photo) or bio (short and fun, tell people who you are). I left my bio empty at first and got zero followers—total rookie move.

2. Start with Stories, not Posts. Stories are easier and less pressure—post daily stuff (food, pets, your day) to get comfortable. I posted a fancy Post first, got no likes, and felt discouraged.

3. Don’t overdo hashtags. Use 5-8 relevant ones (not 30 random ones). I used 20+ hashtags once, and Instagram flagged my post—stick to specific ones that fit your content.

4. Adjust your privacy settings. Go to settings and toggle “Private Account” if you don’t want strangers seeing your posts. I forgot to do this and got weird DMs from people I didn’t know.
