HungryAliens: Android Newbie Guide & Honest Review

Casual roguelikes on Android are usually hit or miss, but HungryAliens nails that sweet spot between chaos and simplicity. It’s not some deep, grind-heavy RPG—just fast, 8-minute matches where you control quirky aliens with one goal: eat everything in sight to become the top predator. No complicated lore, no confusing mechanics, just pure, unadulterated fun that’s perfect for killing time when you’re bored or on the go.

The biggest mistake newbies make? Wasting time on the wrong aliens. Let’s cut the crap—tier lists don’t have to be fancy, but picking the right one is make-or-break. All S-tier aliens have 1121 combat power, which is way better than the A/B tiers (they only hit 200, max). Here’s the lowdown on the best S-tiers to start with, no fluff:

1. Ketchapi (water): Heals 50% of your max HP with every hit—total lifesaver when you’re still learning the ropes. She even gets a 50% chance to recover HP with her red umbrella attack, which I wish I knew sooner.

2. Gum (nature): Blows bubble gum to slow enemies by 65% for half a second—ideal if you’re bad at dodging. Later, she leaves damaging footprints too, so she’s not just a one-trick pony.

3. Laika (wind): Wipes poison right off you with his windfield—super useful when enemies start spamming toxic attacks. He also gets a 20% attack speed boost at 3 stars, which cranks up the damage fast.

Skip A/B tiers like Ignatia or Alpha for now. They’re weak, and upgrading ‘em is a waste of resources—save your stuff for S-tiers, even if you can’t unlock ‘em right away. Trust me, I wasted coins on Alpha early and regretted it hard.

Gameplay’s so simple, even if you’ve never played a roguelike before. Move your alien with the left joystick, munch on every creature and snack you see to level up—more snacks = faster leveling. Controls are intuitive, no fumbling mid-battle. Each match tops out at 8 minutes, which is perfect for quick breaks—no sitting there for hours grinding.

A few quick hacks to win faster: Eat EVERYTHING. Don’t skip snacks ‘cause they look small—they add up, and leveling fast means you’ll crush later matches. Use your alien’s unique ability whenever you’re swarmed—Gum’s bubble slow, Mamba’s stun, Laika’s poison wipe—they’re there for a reason. And don’t stress about losing—matches are quick, so you can retry in 8 minutes flat.

Let’s keep it real with pros and cons, no fluff. The good: 8-minute matches (perfect for casual players), quirky alien designs, unique abilities for each S-tier, and no pay-to-win nonsense. The bad: Later matches get repetitive, and S-tiers might take a minute to unlock. Also, enemies are inspired by different cultures, which is a cool touch but doesn’t change how you play.

Overall, it’s a great casual roguelike for Android newbies. It’s easy to pick up, doesn’t require hours of grinding early on, and the chaotic fun never gets old. If you dig quick, silly alien action where eating is the name of the game, this one’s for you. Just remember to stick to S-tiers first, eat everything, and use those unique abilities—you’ll be the top predator in no time.
