Editor's Review
Beastie Bay delivers exactly what you’d hope for when Pokémon-style monster taming collides with Kairosoft’s town-building formula. You’re stranded on an empty island—chop wood, plant crops, but the real game starts when you capture local beasts. They fight for you, and their elemental strengths decide who wins in new territory. Turning a deserted beach into a bustling hub with hotels and hot springs is genuinely satisfying. Just know that progress lives on your device—delete the app, and it’s gone. Perfect for players who enjoy building from nothing and slow-burn progression.

Beastie Bay Tips
Beastie Bay: Stop Building, Start Capturing—Here’s How to Actually Get Good
Let’s be real—most people boot up Beastie Bay, build a few houses, plant some crops, and then get absolutely wrecked by the first serious monster they run into. I get it. The game looks like a cute little island sim, but it’s hiding a surprisingly deep monster-taming system that will punish you if you ignore it.
Here’s the thing: your buildings don’t matter nearly as much as your party does.
Elements Are Everything—Learn the Loop
The combat system runs on a simple elemental rock-paper-scissors: Lightning beats Water, Water beats Fire, Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Earth, Earth beats Lightning . Ice counts as Water, robots count as Lightning. Same-element attacks? Weak. If you’re bringing a Fire monster to a Water fight, you’re just asking to lose.
The smart play? Keep a balanced party. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen people stack five of the same type and wonder why they can’t clear a zone. Switch up your team before each expedition, and pay attention to what the area throws at you .
Stop Sleeping on the School
Here’s a mistake almost everyone makes early: leveling monsters one by one in battle. That’s painfully slow. Build the School building, park eight monsters next to an instructor, and watch the EXP roll in while you do literally anything else . It’s the single most efficient way to grind levels, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t build it sooner.
Also, don’t get attached to your starter monster. Dogs are solid early game—good tank, Earth element—but you’ll find better stuff. When you see a high-star monster, grab it. Even if it resets to level 1, its stat ceiling is way higher than the random three-star you’ve been dragging around since hour one .
That Dock? It’s Your Gold Machine
Tourists are your main income source, and they’re picky. They only walk so far, so plop your shops and rest spots right by the dock . Throw down some paths too—tourists get tired fast without them, and tired tourists don’t spend money.
Plant harvestable fields near these areas. Your workers will drop specialty items there, and tourists snap them up. That’s your gold flow. Don’t overcomplicate it.
Medals: Save Them
You get medals from exploring, finishing tasks, and—weirdly enough—just playing for ten minutes at a time. Quit and reload, and you can claim up to ten medals per pop .
Here’s where most people mess up: they blow medals on random gear upgrades early. Don’t. Save for the Bestiary upgrade first. It raises your monsters’ max level, and you literally cannot beat late-game areas without it . The cheap 3–5 medal survival gear tweaks? Fine for early game. But hold onto the rest until you get that Bestiary boost.
The Save Scum Trick (Yes, It Works)
Found a cave with a high-level monster you want? Save before you fight it. The monster’s star rating changes every time you reload . Same goes for the recruitment building—pick a chest, don’t like what you got? Force close the app, reload from the auto-save, and try again. It’s not glamorous, but it works, and it’s how you’ll end up with a team of 4–5 star monsters instead of scraping by with 2-stars.
Quick Takeaways for New Players
Pick Dog at the start. Best early tank, Earth element pairs well with the Earth Golem you’ll find soon .
Research constantly. Even dumping 1 wood into a project keeps it moving. Increase the research speed when you can afford it .
Explore everything. Each new area expands your island and unlocks new buildings. Hit 100% exploration on your home island first—you get a powerful armor reward .
Don’t ignore the equipment system. Weapons can change your monster’s attack element. If you’re going into a Fire-heavy zone, give your team Water-element weapons. Same logic for defense gear .
Beastie Bay isn’t hard once you understand what it’s actually asking you to do. It’s not a pure sim where you can sit back and watch your island grow. It’s a monster-taming RPG wearing a sim’s clothes, and the sooner you start treating it like one, the sooner you’ll stop getting flattened by random wildlife.
