Editor's Review
Dream Town Story doesn’t just let you build a town—it makes you care about the people living in it. I went in expecting a standard city builder, but the moment residents started buying bikes from the shop I placed, actually traveling farther because of it, something clicked. The co-op mode surprised me too; teaming up with other players changes the pacing entirely. It’s the kind of game where you can either compete in rankings or just relax and expand at your own speed. Perfect for anyone who enjoys watching a small settlement grow into something that actually functions.

Tired of tedious town simulators taking up your time? Develop dream dwellings
down to the last brick and construct cityscapes crawling as far as the eye can
see in this stimulating simulation game!
Compete with other towns in the rankings, or take it easy and go at your own pace.
Build houses to have people move into your town, then add shops and lots of other facilities, making it a vibrant, lovely place to live. Stores like the bike shop or car dealer will sell vehicles to your residents, allowing them to travel further and visit more places.
Acquire more areas as your town grows, discover new facilities to build, help the residents find new jobs, plan the town down to the last detail to make sure it's convenient for everyone... There is just so much to do!
Once you get settled into your town, try co-op mode, which will enable you to team up with other players and build towns together.
Dream Town Story Tips
Dream Town Story: Stop Placing Buildings Randomly, Start Thinking About Combos
Look, I’ll save you the pain I went through. Most people boot up Dream Town Story, start slapping down houses and shops wherever there’s empty space, and then wonder why their town feels stuck. The game doesn’t punish you for that—it just quietly lets you plateau while your neighbor’s town keeps growing.
The secret? Building combos. And getting your Work stat sorted before you do anything else.
Work Stat Matters More Than You Think
When you create your character, dump at least 10 points into Work. I know it’s tempting to spread points around, but here’s the reality: Work speeds up debris removal. Faster debris removal means you build faster. Building faster means your town grows faster. It’s that simple. Already started and didn’t do this? No worries—some businesses boost Work over time. But you’ll feel the difference early if you front-load it.
Combos Are the Real Economy
There are 171 building combos in this game. That’s not a flex—that’s the game telling you that placing buildings randomly leaves money on the table. Most combos require three buildings near each other. The game will hint when a combo is possible, but positioning matters. Plan your space early. Don’t just fill empty land without thinking about what goes next to what.
And here’s something the tutorial doesn’t emphasize: hitting building conditions—like popularity targets or land value thresholds—unlocks rewards. New items. New transport options. Sometimes even pets. Those rewards feed back into your town’s growth loop.
Residents Aren’t Just Numbers
Your residents have jobs, hobbies, and lives. If you ignore them, your town stagnates. When assigning jobs, pick roles with high success rates. 99% over 78% might seem obvious, but it matters—higher success means higher salaries, and higher salaries mean residents spend more in your shops.
Help them make friends. Push them toward hobbies. Encourage contests. It’s easy money, and it keeps their happiness up. Happy residents get married. Married residents have kids. Kids grow up and become new residents. That’s how your population grows without you having to spam houses everywhere.
Expand Land Wisely—Or Pay for It
To grow your town, you’ll buy new land. But here’s the catch: you also have to pass a challenge. Usually something like “build X structures in Y months.” If you fail, you lose the cash you paid and any buildings you already placed on that new plot.
Don’t rush it. Check your current town’s capacity before you expand. Can you actually hit that building target in the time given? If not, wait. There’s no penalty for holding off.
Quick Hits for New Mayors
Save manually. Autosave only triggers at the end of a day or weekend. A lot can go wrong in between.
Build Town Hall first. That’s where new buildings and features unlock. It’s not optional—it’s your progression gate.
Grab shares when you can. Some buildings let you buy shares. It adds passive income. Small, but it adds up.
Listen to the secretary. Town council ideas depend on resident stats. The secretary gives hints—ignore them and your proposals flop.
Unlock trophies. Top-left icon. Raises your town rank. Higher rank means more residents and more cash. More cash means faster expansion.
The Pace Takes Getting Used To
Game time moves fast—12 in-game hours is about 3 real minutes. Pop-ups slow things down, so it’s not overwhelming, but you’ll blink and a year’s gone by. That’s fine. The game rewards steady attention, not frantic clicking.
One more thing: if you hit Year 15 Spring, you unlock New Game+. It carries over your cash, known combos, and resident knowledge. Perfect if you want a cleaner second run without starting from zero.
Dream Town Story isn’t hard. It just rewards planning over chaos. Set up your combos, keep your residents happy, expand when you’re actually ready—and your town will grow faster than you expect.
